A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique 17-character alphanumeric code assigned to every vehicle at manufacture, the vehicle's fingerprint. It encodes the manufacturer, model, year and production sequence, and is the canonical identifier the API resolves a report against.

The VIN typically appears on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), on a sticker on the driver's side door jamb, on the registration certificate, on the insurance card, and sometimes stamped on the engine block or chassis. Any of these can be passed to the lookup endpoint.

Yes. The API supports license-plate lookups for many European countries, pass the plate number and the country of registration. The plate is mapped to the underlying vehicle; VIN-based queries remain the most comprehensive option and are recommended where available.

A salvage or write-off status indicates the vehicle was declared a total loss by an insurer due to significant damage, theft or other circumstances. It is returned as an explicit field in the payload; the vehicle may have been repaired and returned to the road, but the status remains on record and typically affects resale value.

The system cross-references mileage readings from multiple sources over time. When a later reading shows fewer kilometers than an earlier one, the report flags a potential rollback in a dedicated field, alongside any inconsistencies across service records, inspections and insurance data, so you can act on it programmatically.
